For our debut episode, we discussed What's New, Pussycat?, which is the first feature length film that Woody Allen wrote and acted in.
The movie poster features the art of Frank Frazetta, who did excellent horror comic art for EC Comics, and later produced some of the best cover illustrations for Creepy, Eerie, and Vampirella comic magazines.
We chose Alfie (1966) as the second feature.
Both films are about a womanizer who refuses to commit or get tied down by marriage or family responsibilities. The films came out a year apart and enjoyed comparable box office success. They also feature theme songs by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Beyond this, the similarities end as the films are quite distinct in tone and style of humor.
At the time of this writing, both films are available to rent for online streaming from Amazon Instant Video but not from Netflix. I also found free versions to stream online at http://putlocker.bz/ if your TV is set up with a regular browser.
